_Education Coordinator: Childbirth Education - Education _

HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is a full-service hospital offering a 531 bed inpatient and outpatient medical, surgical and specialty services. The campus includes Level II trauma capabilities, a Neuroscience Institute, The Heart & Vascular Hospital, a bariatrics program, the Breast Diagnostic Center, a wound care center, a level III Neonatal ICU, and the areas only pediatric emergency department and pediatric ICU.

HCA Houston Healthcare Clear Lake is affiliated with HCA Houston Healthcare, part of the HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division. The division is a comprehensive network of hospitals, outpatient surgery centers, emergency centers and diagnostic imaging facilities in greater Houston, Corpus Christi and South Texas. Facilities include: 17 hospitals, nine ambulatory care centers, 13 off-campus emergency centers, and a regional transfer center.

What you will do in this role:
  • Facilitates the development of educational programs which are congruent with the stated mission and objectives of the Hospital. Shares and promotes the hospital's Mission, Vision, and Values: supports the Ethics and Compliance Program.
  • Assists in determining the educational needs of the expectatnt family in collaboration with the Director of Women's Services. Completes needs assessments as needed.
  • Maintains accurate documentaiton of program topics, objectives, participants, and evaluations.
  • Schedules all childbirth and parenting classes; arranges for appropriate/qualified instructors.
  • Facilitates the activities of instructors through meetings, feedback, and performance evaluation.
  • Facilitates/oversees the process for registration for childbirth/parenting classes: scheduling, payments, class/participant cancellations, interaction with customers, calendar development, etc.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual Childbirth/Parenting education budget.
  • Prepares/submits monthly productivity and activity reports on all childbirth/parenting classes and related activities.
  • Manages supplies, equipment, teaching and instructional aids required for classes offered.
  • Maintains current competency and certification in the provisions of childbirth/parenting classes; serves as a role model in the teaching setting with transfer of these competencies to practice.
  • Communicates knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the classroom setting.
  • Adapts current educational programs and/or develops new programs to focus on the specialized needs of the expectant family.
  • Utilizes appropriate teaching methods and materials to meet the population-specific needs of the patients and family across the life span.
  • Participates in the education of hospital and other clinical staff, as necessary/appropriate.
  • Maintains and improves own professional knowledge.
  • Serves as a resource person for staff and new/expectant parents and families.
  • Responsible for demonstrating autonomy, responsibility and accountability in the accomplishment of position responsibilities.
  • Completes other assignments as requested.
What qualification you will need:

Experience:
  • Minimum 3 years experience in maternal-child nursing
  • Minimum 2 years experience in childbirth education

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing; Bachelor's Preferred
Special Qualifications:
  • Current RN Texas licensure with State Board of Nurse Examiners
  • Current BLS Instructor ceritifcation
  • Current certifications in childbirth education (LCCE or ICEA)
  • Texas Department of Health Educator Certification
