About Sunrise

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.

The Sunrise approach involves Aboriginal communities taking part in controlling their own health. Everything from financial management and governance, staff selection and service delivery priorities are directed by the organisation's Aboriginal Board and Community Health Committees.

Servicing nine communities spread over 45,000 square kilometres, the Sunrise footprint covers Aboriginal communities that are some of the most disadvantaged in the Territory with some of the most complex health issues. Yet despite this, the ethos and practices of Sunrise Health have it be a leader, both nationally and in the Territory, for both national and Territory performance indicators.

Acute health care does not make people well - it is only when health issues and the social determinants of health are addressed, that families and communities become well - a challenge that Sunrise Health is committed to address with each of its communities and with the expectation that each of its employees will adopt and uphold this culture.

About the Opportunity

Sunrise Health Service Aboriginal Corporation now has multiple opportunities available for a Community Mental Health Nurse based in Katherine, servicing remote NT on a full-time basis.

As a Community Mental Health Registered Nurse - NDIS, reporting to the NDIS Manager, you will work with NDIS and non-NDIS clients who have mental health conditions, providing expert support to clients requiring mental health care and their families.

You will have the opportunity in this role to travel by light plane or 4WD, with overnight stays up to a week in the surrounded communities including Mataranka, Ngukurr, Bulman, Minyerri, Beswick/Wugularr and Barunga.

Your key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Provide clinical care to participants in the NDIS program as per their requirements and wishes in their NDIS Plan;
  • Provide upskilling for the NDIS staff in mental health care;
  • Provide information and education to individuals and groups in Ngukurr on issues related to mental health and social and emotional well-being; and
  • Follow up at-risk patients and those referred back after being discharged from specialised services.
What will you need to succeed?

To be successful in the Community Mental Health Registered Nurse - NDIS position you will hold current registration as a Registered Nurse with experience in Mental Health.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable working experience and skills in managing Mental health conditions in a multi-disciplinary primary health care environment, with experience in the Northern Territory or remote work highly regarded, although not essential.

Able to demonstrate a commitment to the objectives and ethos of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations such as Sunrise, you will have a clear respect for Aboriginal culture, and be willing to learn from the Aboriginal community and outreach team members.

Your well-developed interpersonal skills will enable you to communicate confidently and effectively. Independently driven with the ability to schedule your own workload and travel, you will also be able to work collaboratively with other health team members.

Please note: Applicants must have a current unrestricted Australian Drivers License, and consent to a National Police Check and Working with Children Check prior to commencing.
